The Green Dot Bystander Intervention Program
The Green Dot Strategy is a violence prevention approach that capitalizes on the power of peer and cultural influences. This strategy targets members of the community as potential bystanders and seeks to interact with them through awareness, education, and skills practice, and proactive behaviors that establish intolerance of violence, and reactive intervention in a high-risk situation, resulting in the ultimate reduction of violence. The ‘Green Dot’ symbolizes a moment in time that can be used to end the perpetration. Green Dots are either classified as proactive or reactive. Proactive green dots are preventative actions people can do to stop personal violence. Reactive green dots are things people can do to intervene in a high-risk situation, also known as a Red Dot situation. Green Dot situations can be added to the campus map available for student access.
