Proyecto Ucamara

The Ucamara Project is a three year survey of aquatic fauna at the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Peruvian Amazon - the largest reserve of várzea floodplain in the Neotropics. My master's thesis was part of this project, evaluating the fish fauna associated with flooded forests. http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/ucamara/

Estación Biológica Mosiro Itajura (Caparú) – Conservation Internacional, Colombia

The field Station Caparú is located in the lower Apaporis River, Colombian Amazon. The station has access to an immense floodplain area characterized by old growth rain forest and flooded forest where logging, hunting, and fishing activities are very limited.

I conducted research at this site in 1997 and 1998 as part of my undergraduate thesis.  I will be conducting my dissertation research in this area as part of the project entitled: Linking Flooded Forests, Fishes and People in the río Caquetá: A First Effort to Promote Floodplain Conservation in the Colombian Amazon.  This project will be conducted between January 2009 and January 2010 and will be funded by Wildlife Conservation Society – Research Fellowship Program.
