Freshman Scholarships

The Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences offers a number of freshman scholarships that range from $400/yr to $2500/yr. Applications are available via the Texas Common Scholarship Application on the Texas Common Application Website http://www.applytexas.org . Applications become available on September 1 of each year and the deadline is February 1 of each year.

Continuing Undergraduate Student Scholarships

The Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences offers six different scholarships for continuing students. Students must be enrolled full time during the semesters that the scholarship is awarded. The Scholarship application is available on the Financial Aid Website. Students will fill out one application and choose the scholarships they wish to be considered for. The applications will be available in Nov/Dec of each year with a February 1 deadline. Any supporting material (letters of recommendation, copy of hunting license, etc.) may be sent to:

Listed below are descriptions and the requirements for each of the scholarships.

  1. Daniel Wayne Lay Scholarship – $1000
    1. Minimum 3.0 GPR
    2. Financial need
    3. Citizen or permanent resident of the United States
    4. Jr. or Sr. in wildlife option in the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at TAMU
  2. W.B. Davis Scholarship – $1000
    1. Minimum 3.0 GPR
    2. Citizen or permanent resident of the United States
    3. Undergraduate Student in wildlife option in the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at TAMU
  3. Donnie Harmel Scholarship – $1000
    1. Good Academic Standing
    2. Texas Resident
    3. Involved in professional societies and natural resource related extracurricular activities.
    4. Be of an attitude that exemplifies hard work, honesty and a willingness to be a good steward of our natural resources.
    5. Undergraduate Student in wildlife option in the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at TAMU
  4. Rick & James Beck Scholarship – $1000
    1. WFSC major
    2. Jr. or Sr. Classification
    3. Undergraduate Student in fisheries/aquaculture option in the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at TAMU
    4. Financial need
    5. TX resident
    6. Students who stand on middle ground that may not be eligible for other scholarships due to GPR
    7. Has shown his/her determination to finish degree and is willing to work harder & longer to achieve
  5. Dallas Ecological Foundation Scholarship – $1000
    1. Undergraduate Student in wildlife option in the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at TAMU
    2. Must be in good standing in Department & University
    3. Possess a current Texas Hunting license
  6. William C. Spalsbury Scholarship – $500
    1. Minimum 3.0 GPR and good standing with the University
    2. Citizen or Permanent resident of the United States
    3. Undergraduate Student in wildlife option in the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences at TAMU
